Paperwork

When purchasing a new car, scrutinize the paperwork to make sure you are not in for any nasty surprises.

Examine the V5C registration document, checking the registration date, chassis and number of owners.

Upon completing the sale, ensure that the new owner's section of the V5C is filled in correctly. Take your relevant sections with you.

Check the service history, ensuring that it has been completed. Should you be buying a used car, verify that key services have been undertaken.

Should the car be old enough to need an MOT, check the MOT’s expiry date to ensure that you are able to get the car insured as soon as possible.

Ensure you receive an invoice as well as a sales contract highlighting the completed deal and that the balance has been settled.

Should you have settled for a dealer’s finance package, check all relevant paperwork and sign.
