Wording Your Car Advert

By getting your advert wording right you increase your chances of attracting more potential buyers. Should you mess the wording up, you may be waiting for that phone to ring.

  • Put all relevant information in the ad, ensuring that it is accurate, precise and honest.
  • Specify the exact model, the registration year and plate number (eg 2000/W), mileage (78,700 miles not 79k), whether or not the car has a full service history, price, its colour, the number of previous owners (should there be a few owners for a car that age), list of features/equipment, a colour photograph as well as contact details.
  • Should you be selling online you are likely to have ample space. However, a short and sweet ad pays dividends as long as you have included all relevant details.
  • Omit abbreviations. Lots of buyers are not going to know what on earth they mean. Should you be faced with reducing the cost of an advert, stay with the most used abbreviations, such as, FSH (full service history), PAS (power-assisted steering), EW (electric windows), AC (air-conditioning), RCL (remote/central locking), VGC (very/good condition) and ONO (or nearest offer)
