A recent report revealed that the majority of car buyers in the UK look for advice from members of their family when they are contemplating buying a new car or getting finance for one. It is usual for the advice to be sought from male members of the family.
Advice about cars and finance is normally asked of from friends, mechanics or car dealers. However this is fast changing as male family members are being approached first.
The report compiled by the Halifax showed that the advice of male friends is preferred over that of female friends. Out of those surveyed 41 per cent said they would approach a male friend or family member first compared to 18 per cent who would ask a female friend. There was a small proportion, 18 per cent, who would not ask any advice from anyone.
Buying a car is the second most expensive purchase a person is likely to make after buying a house, so it is important to get good advice first. This is where family comes into to the picture.
The report also highlights that over one in five (21 per cent) of all personal loans granted are for the purchase of new or used cars.
