High value car buyers most at risk

Tue, 18 Apr 2006

The Automobile Association Data Check Survey, carried out by Experian, has recently revealed that used car buyers who choose more expensive vehicles are more likely to suffer fraud than those who go for cheaper cars. According to the survey, car buyers who go for a vehicle priced over £10,000 are more likely to be at risk.

Vehicles of this nature actually have a one in three chance of having a hidden history, and buyers of this type are less likely to check the car’s history before purchasing it. A hidden history could include all kinds of things, but most common are cars with outstanding with outstanding finance, cars that have previously been written off or stolen markers. The AA Car Data Check Survey has found that only 17 per cent of vehicle history checks are carried out by those buyers who choose vehicles priced over £10,000. One expert was reported as saying that: "Buying a used car is risky and not enough people are aware of the issues or take the necessary precautions." And furthermore "The more money you spend on a car, the more important it becomes to carry out an AA Car Data Check."

A vehicle history check is an extremely sensible idea for any car purchase, whether cheap or expensive.
