The world's largest premium carmaker, BMW are keen to source component parts for their cars from India, thereby marking these with made India.
The manufacturer is also planning to launch the iconic Mini car into India by 2009.
BMW may have been late to enter into the Indian car market but it is moving at a good pace into the market.
The company launched its 3 series last month in India and is anticipating sales of over 1,000 vehicles in India this year. The BMW 5 series is scheduled for launch in the next couple of months.
BMW has priced the 3 series car at Rs 27 lakh with the help of local assembly even though there is just 10% of localisation of parts, for example, the seats for the 3 series and door panels for the 5 series are produced locally.
The BMW 3 series car is expected to make up large volume of sales in India and 257 units of completely built cars being sold by BMW India in 2006.
Over the next two years the company are looking to expand their dealer network to every metro city in India.
