A leading supermarket bank is urging motorists to take out comprehensive car insurance policies. This comes after research by Sainsburys Bank revealed that 460,000 motorist were involved in an accident while taking children to school.
The banks own car insurance policy has a new for old provision for car seats if the car is involved in an accident.
Nearly a quarter of those surveyed were not aware of the legal requirements for the use of child seats in cars.
According to the Bank, the busiest time of the day for driving is between 8.30 am and 9.00 am, when there are over five million in the UK who drive their children to school each day.
Steve Johnson, head of car insurance at Sainsburys Bank said, "Our research shows that one in four of those driving their children to school, has admitted that the children were not always securely fastened in a child car seat or booster.
"The familiarity of the route coupled with the often short distances travelled may make parents feel overly confident and therefore less aware of the dangers involved in the school run."
He added: "As parents, we need to treat every journey in the same manner, regardless of the length or familiarity of the journey and take extra care to make sure the seats and boosters are correctly positioned and fastened."
