British car supermarkets are becoming more and more popular with Irish consumers wanting to capitalise on the huge savings the car markets offer on both new and used vehicles, compared to dealer prices in their own country.
A report states that the Irish have a huge incentive for buying a vehicle from British mainland, as they are cheaper to purchase even when VRT, the domestic vehicle tax that equals around 25 per cent of the expected selling price, has been added.
By the end of this year it is estimated around 80,000 vehicles are set to be imported into Ireland .
The UKs largest car supermarket, Motorpoint, is able to offer even greater savings through its very competitively priced range of vehicles . Before setting foot in the UK, consumers may view the precise specification along with live photos of the vehicle required online. The transaction can also be completed over the Internet or by phone .
Motorpoint outlets are very accessible to buyers from Ireland, with two of the five outlets located in the west of the British Isles .
One of the car supermarkets in Burnley is located close to both the port of Liverpool, which has two daily crossings to Dublin, and to John Lennon Liverpool Airport, which also has frequent flights to the Emerald Isle.
Alternatively there is another Motorpoint site located in Newport, South Wales, which offers the biggest range of new and used vehicles out of the five sites. This outlet is situated close to Cardiff International Airport, which regularly operates flights to Dublin, and Pembroke for ferry crossings.
David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint commented on the recent report, explaining: "Whilst the taxes are still relatively high in Ireland, this is forcing customers to look elsewhere to purchase a vehicle ."
"Due to our competitive pricing policy, we are in a position to offer buyers a deal which is unlikely to be matched in their own country, providing them with savings, which will make a significant difference to what they are able to afford."
