UK motorists are losing almost £500 in value from their cars every month, a new study into the real cost of car ownership has revealed.
According to new research from uswitch.com, the much-loved Ford Focus is the most depreciating car in the UK, retaining the least amount of its original value .
The car - Britains best selling model had seen a slide in value by almost 48 per cent from August last year.
The UKs second best selling model, the Vauxhall Astra, is reported to lose around 45 per cent of its original price of £14,565, according to the Uswitch study .
Meanwhile luxury cars manage to retain their values much better, for example the Audi R9 Coupe only dropped by 16 per cent in value .
It was also found that nine out of ten of last months best selling models, with the exception of the BMW 3 series, lose around a third of their sticker price.
On average it was revealed that a car loses £5,967 of its value in the first year, followed by £1,589 in the second and £1,134 in the third year of ownership .
