Mercedes Launch New SLK 55 AMG Black Series

Wed, 29 Aug 2007

German car giant Mercedes Benz has launched an upgrade of the hugely successful SLK 55 AMG Roadster .

The Black Series aims to be even sportier than its predecessor and comes equipped with a 5.5-litre engine which pumps out 400bhp – an increase of 40bhp from the original model .

The car has also reduced in weight by 45kg, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 4.5sec (4.9sec previously) and an unrestricted top speed of 173mph (155mph previously).

Other great new additions include a sports suspension kit, lightweight and more powerful brake discs, 19-inch alloy wheels, along with some alterations to the car’s exterior styling such as carbonfibre-reinforced front wings and large air intakes.

A fixed hard top, instead of the standard model's folding metal roof, helps lower the car's weight, but while the car’s interior has two sports seats the side airbags are no longer fitted as a result.

Extra options on the Black Series include more leather, limited-slip differential, and exterior and interior carbonfibre styling packages .

The new upgrade from Mercedes will cost car buyers 92,500 Euros (£63,000 with current exchange rate). UK buyers will have that price converted to sterling once an order has been placed.
