Peugeot To Issue Third 307 Recall

Tue, 28 Aug 2007

Peugeot is recalling 240,000 units of the 307-model throughout northern Europe next month because of possible problems with the electronic stability systems and the antilock brake .

The giant French car manufacturer said that the antilock brake system and electronic stability program could short-circuit due to a defect found in waterproofing.

A spokeswoman said: "It's a pre-emptive measure. There are no short-term problems with the car ."

Peugeot has not disclosed the cost of the recall but stated that it will take place in Germany and several other Scandinavian countries.

The mass recall would be the third of its kind for the 307 model since 2004, with short-circuit risks also behind the previous two.

Last year over ten thousand French-made 307s were recalled in Denmark due to a possible fault in part of the electronic stability program, which automatically adjusts braking for each individual wheel – improving control in dangerous conditions.

Peugeot placed the blame of last year’s recall on weather conditions and road-salting, as well as in 2005 when nine Peugeot cars caught fire in Scandinavia, resulting in a recall of 60,000 307s.
