The most expensive car ever to be sold in the history of the prestigious auction house, Christie's, is due to go on sale at the international vintage car fair Rétromobile in Paris later this month.
Christie's is set to auction the extremely rare 1939 Auto Union Type D Grand Prix car, an ancestor of the German manufacturer Audi, that could fetch £8 million.
The D-Type, which is still as fast as a modern Ferarri has a twin-supercharged three-litre V12 engine which produces over 450bhp for a top speed of 205mph, will go on sale at the Rétromobile international vintage car fair in Paris on February 17.
The Type-D up for auction in Paris has been reassembled by car restoration experts Crosthwaite and Gardiner in East Sussex, after it was found in pieces in the 1980s.
Christie's has estimated the top bid could be more than £7.8million, which would set a new record for the company .
The record is currently held by a 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe which sold for £5.5m in 1987.
