Vauxhall is set to unveil new safety technology that will allow cars to be able to talk to one another.
The company's new Calibra will feature the latest safety system, which should drastically reduce the chance of a road traffic accident and help make the companys models some of the safest in the world.
The V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) system employs some highly sophisticated GPS-based technology that enables two cars (both Vauxhall) in close proximity to warn each driver of any potential collisions, as it is capable of calculating location, speed, acceleration and direction of travel .
For example, if a car ahead is stopped on a blind bend, the V2V can warn the driver visually, acoustically or by vibrations through their seat . The electronics will even automatically apply the brakes if the driver takes no action.
V2V can also be used to alert the driver to overtaking cars hidden in their blind spot, cars changing lanes without indicating and to any potential rear end collisions. The latter will be signalled by the car flashing its brake lights to warn the driver behind too.
Unfortunately the safety system is not yet available on production Vauxhalls, but should be introduced during the next few months.
