New BMW M Sport X5 Unveiled

Fri, 08 Jun 2007

BMW have unveiled first glimpses of the new range-topping X5 . Featuring a bodykit with modified bumpers, wheel-arch extensions and side skirts, and some whopping 19-inch alloys, the new M sport model certainly looks the part.

The 4x4’s interior includes standard leather trim, sports seats, an M Sport steering wheel and anthracite-coloured headlining, while handling is improved through the car’s lowered and stiffened suspension.

With 90 per cent of buyers of the previous-generation model ordering their car in Sport trim, the new flagship spec is crucial for the brand .

In terms of power and performance the new M version X5 will be available with 3.0-litre petrol or 3.0-litre diesel engines later in the year. Customers who don’t want to wait can get their hands on the top-of-the-range 4.8-litre petrol X5 now, which comes equipped with a V8 with variable valve timing that delivers 355bhp and 475Nm of torque .

The X5 4.8i M Sport powers to 62mph in just 6.5 seconds and is capable of a maximum speed of 150mph.

But one thing the X5 is not is eco friendly, which you would expect for such a powerful SUV, as the 4x4 returns only 22.6mpg on the combined cycle and emits a huge 299g/km of CO2 .

The BMW M Sport X5 will set you back £53,440.
