New Seat Ibiza To Go On Sale Next Summer

Fri, 23 Nov 2007

Seat has announced its sporty new Ibiza supermini will be launched next summer, while three-door models are expected to arrive in UK showrooms towards the end of 2008 or the start of 2009.

Seat added that high performance FR and Cupra versions will also enter the market, although the company stressed the whole Ibiza range will have a sporty look.

The new model will not only be lowered, but will also be longer and wider than the current edition.

Seat is promising that the new Ibiza will include features not seen on any current supermini, although the carmaker has not yet released any official details of what may be included.

One option that has been confirmed for the Ibiza is xenon headlights for dipped and main beam, which will be offered to buyers as an extra.

Meanwhile, Seat is hoping to out-do parent company Volkswagen by offering its Ibiza Ecomotive with air-conditioning, while still keeping carbon dioxide emissions at a low level - below 100g/km.

VW's Polo Bluemotion emits just 99g/km of CO2, but only for models without air-con. Models that do feature air-con emit 104g/km, which places them in the higher road tax band B.

Seat has also confirmed that a Leon Ecomotive, expected to emit less than 120g/km of CO2, should go on sale in January 2008.
