Volvo has been forced to recall 56,000 cars worldwide, with more than 7,000 faulty vehicles being brought from the UK .
The mass recall by the Swedish carmaker is believed to be due to the units suffering from two separate problems.
The affected models, including the S60, V70, XC70 and XC90, are plagued by either an engine problem or faulty airbags, according to Volvo .
A total of 5,560 diesel versions of the listed models made last year have been recalled in Britain due to faulty fuel injectors that could cause the engine to catch fire .
The second batch of recalled models will see 2,002 V70 and XC70 models built this year brought back to the manufacturers production plants because of slow releasing side airbags .
Volvo, whose reputation for car-safety is second to none, has also recalled faulty vehicles from the US, Sweden, Germany and Italy .
In the UK, the carmaker has reported that recall letters have now been sent out to owners and repairs on vehicles will be carried out by the manufacturer free of charge.
