Subaru Showcases New Impreza WRX STI

Thu, 25 Oct 2007

Subaru has unveiled the long-awaited performance version of its new Impreza .

Taking centre stage at this week’s Tokyo Motor Show, the Impreza WRX STI has been identified by some as an attempt to broaden the company’s customer base beyond the ‘hard core enthusiasts’ who are traditionally attracted to the Impreza model.

The Japanese brand delayed unveiling the WRX STI until after the launch of its normally aspirated Impreza models, which have gone on sale priced at £12,495.

The 2.5-litre WRX turbos will be available from next month in limited supply only, with prices starting from £19,995, although car buyers will have to wait until next spring to get their hands on the super-charged STI version.

The STI features a revised 300 PS turbocharged 2.5-litre boxer engine and is designed with World rally Championship looks, a factor which the carmaker claimed would satisfy "Subaru traditionalists".

The brand new Impreza STI is wider and longer than its predecessor and includes vastly improved comfort and ride quality, according its manufacturer.

Managing Director of Subaru UK, Lawrence Good, said: "The new WRX STI will be the perfect addition to a new range of Imprezas which are appealing to a wider, more mainstream audience."
