New research has revealed that the good service provided by dealers when it comes to purchasing a second hand car is often followed by poor after-sales care, with dealers being accused of being too eager to please.
A survey by The AutoTrader has found that while 65 per cent of motorists received excellent or good attention when they were buying their vehicle, more than half of those questioned revealed that once payment had been made the level of service deteriorated dramatically.
Worryingly, 20 per cent of those surveyed complained that they were given poor or very poor attention when returning for servicing work and 48 per cent claimed that car dealers failed to carry out repairs, which were agreed upon, before delivering the vehicle .
The AutoTrader research also highlighted that nearly 50 per cent of drivers found that basic checks on a car, such as engine oil, coolant levels and tyre pressure checks, were not carried out at all.
