The Toyota Avensis Verso has been named as the best used car for 2008 by UK personal warranty company, Warranty Direct.
The estate car received the highest number of votes from a total of 40 models across eight categories short-listed by the firms own reliability index.
Nissans X-Trail SUV came in second place followed by the Honda Jazz, making it a clean sweep for Japanese brands at the top of the used car survey . The two cars also claimed the 4x4 and Supermini of the year titles respectively.
Honda had the highest number of models rated with four, while other Japanese brands were highly ranked in the Warranty Direct poll .
German cars had a strong showing, with renowned carmakers BMW and Audi consistently ranking in the top three short-listed models for each category.
Warranty Direct managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher, said: "Once more, Japanese cars have proven to be top of the tree when it comes to buying a used car ."
"Not only are they consistently the most reliable cars on the road, but they clearly tick all the right boxes when it comes to appealing to the buying public."
