Fiat has announced production of its 500 model has been increased in order to meet growing demand for the economical car across Europe .
According to Sergio Marchionne, Fiats chief executive, capacity at the Tychy plant in Poland that builds the A-segment car has been increased to 200,000 units a year.
With 94,000 models already sold to buyers across Europe since the start of the year, Fiat have now increased their initial sales target for 2008 from 120,000 to 195,000 units.
According to data from Jato Dynamics, the Fiat 500 was Europe's second biggest selling minicar between January and May with over 76,500 sales .
The number one spot continues to be held by fellow model, the Fiat Panda, with sales for the first half of the year reaching 101,600.
The Renault Twingo was revealed as the most popular car in the sector.
