BMW is gearing up to unveil its new concept car at the Geneva motor show next month.
The prestige carmaker claims the Vision EfficientDynamics concept car will showcase its green technology of the future.
The car, a hybrid X5, is powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine and lithium-ion batteries . Power is transferred to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
In terms of emissions, the car averages 43.5mpg and emits 172g/km of carbon dioxide .
BMW claims performance hasn't been sacrificed in the pursuit of lower emissions, with the X5 hybrid capable of achieving 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds.
The car also includes solar panels on its roof which generate power to pre-heat the diesel fuel, reducing the time that the engine takes to warm-up in the process.
The German carmaker claims that even the alloy wheels have green credentials as the spokes have been designed to reduce wind resistance.
