Coming out top as the most popular business car was the Vauxhall Astra, closely followed by the Ford Focus and the Vauxhall Vectra in third, while the most popular fleet brand was Ford, claiming three of the top 10 places.
Lex revealed that the Audi A3 and Ford Mondeo, fourth and fifth in the list, recorded the biggest volume increases for the year.
Not faring so well was the VW Golf, which suffered the largest drop, falling from first in 2005 to ninth in 2007.
In terms of fuel preference, diesel models continued to dominate in 2007, accounting for 80 per cent of all cars purchased.
Steve Jones, pricing manager at Lex, said: "The last few times we have carried out this analysis a C sector sized car has proven the most popular fleet car ."
"The Governments move to a CO2 based Benefit in Kind tax system has certainly helped encourage company motorists to downsize their choice of car," he added.
