Volvos eagerly awaited XC60 crossover model is set to debut at next months Geneva Motor Show .
The carmaker announced the new vehicle is being introduced into what it labelled as "the motoring worlds fastest-growing segment".
First seen in concept form at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, the car will arrive in UK showrooms this autumn.
Volvo, which prides itself on car safety, claims the XC60 is its safest model to date .
The model will be the manufacturers first to come standard with its City Safety system, which helps the driver avoid the effects of the type of low-speed impacts that are commonly occur in city traffic .
The system can sense if the car is about to impact with a vehicle in front and applies the brakes if no reaction is made from the driver.
Fredrik Arp, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, said: "We are the first manufacturer in the world to offer this type of feature as standard."
"City Safety clearly shows that the new Volvo XC60 is the safest car Volvo has ever produced."
