Audi has enjoyed a hugely successful 2007 with car sales in the UK exceeding 100,000 units for the first time.
The impressive sales increase of 18 per cent from 2006 volumes has helped the prestige brand break the 100,000 barrier, with end-of-year total sales reaching 100,864.
The result means Audi has leapfrogged rival carmaker Mercedes Benz, which racked up sales of 81,321 units for 2007. However the end-of-year figures were not able to eclipse those of BMW, which recorded its seventh consecutive record sales year with a whopping121,575 units.
Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK, said that the figure was all the more impressive given that it was achieved at a time when demand significantly outstripped supply .
"This milestone figure has been reached in spite of widespread production limitations," he said.
"With waiting lists for a number of models we have moved almost entirely to a position where cars are built to customer order ."
The German carmaker has benefited from the launch of several new products this year, including the highly popular Q7 SUV and A5 Coupe . The two new editions to the Audi range took the total number of models in its collection to 25.
Audi also stated the opening of new dealerships in Birmingham and Cardiff has helped boost sales, while it is confident the opening of the worlds largest Audi site due to open later this year in West London - will enhance its high street presence.
