Audi has announced plans to add yet another model to its popular TT line-up, with an even faster edition of the recently announced TTS expected to go into production .
Although Audi only recently unveiled the 269bhp TTS at the Detroit Motor Show, insiders at the firm have now confirmed that an even faster version of the coupe is to be added to the popular TT range, named the TTRS.
It was initially thought the car would use the 4.2-litre V8 from the Audi R8 supercar. But according to reports from the super TT will be powered by a brand new 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine, producing around 350bhp.
Drivers will get the choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or DSG paddleshift. The cars performance will be similar to that of the R8, with a 0-60 sprint capable in just under five seconds.
However, Audi will limit the top speed of the TTRS to 155mph in order to ensure the 187mph R8 supercar remains the firms flagship model .
The ultimate TT model is expected to arrive in UK showrooms in summer 2009 a year after the TTS goes on sale .
Prices for the car are yet to be announced, but with the TTS commanding around £32,000, buyers can expect to pay a significant premium for the TTRS.
