The Jaguar XF has been named Car of the Year at the annual What Car? awards, held last week at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London .
The new XF model from the luxury carmaker claimed the prestigious award after holding off competition from 14 category winners at the ceremony.
What Car? praised the XF for its driveability and design and said its futuristic interior gave it a "real sense of occasion".
The Jaguar XF also scooped the executive car award, while both BMW and Mini scooped The Green Award for the first time and were commended for producing some of the greenest cars on the market .
Other category winners at the annual event included the Vauxhall Corsa (best supermini) and the Ford Mondeo (best family car), while the Land Rover claimed best compact and large 4x4 categories with its Freelander 2.2 TD4 and Discovery 2.7 TDV6.
Best luxury car was awarded to the Mercedes-Benz S320 CDI, while the superb Audi R8 took best performance car .
