Prestige carmaker Porsche has released first details of the hybrid version of its new Panamera GT car, which it hopes will become one of the most desirable grand tourers on the globe.
Featuring Porsches latest hybrid technology the new Panamera GT will be capable of running on petrol or electric power, or by combination of the two (depending on conditions) for ultimate performance .
Buyers can expect the hybrid system to produce average fuel economy of around 31mpg 15 per cent better than with an equivalent petrol engine alone.
The Panamera will share its hybrid powertrain with the petrol/electric Cayenne hybrid which has already been revealed in prototype form and will be the first to use its hybrid technology when it goes on sale in 2010.
The Panamera Grand Tourer is due for release in 2009 with conventional petrol engines, although no date has been set for the addition of the hybrid variant to the range.
Porsche is still keeping other official details of the car top secret, but has promised the car will offer plenty of room in the rear and "an unmistakeable Porsche driving experience".
