Hyundai-Kia has become the worlds fifth best-selling carmaker, according to figures from the new Automotive News 2008 Global Data book .
The South Korean company achieved its goal of becoming one of the worlds top five carmakers, overtaking Honda in the process.
The Global Data book figures revealed that Hyundai Kia climbed six places in eight years after announcing vehicle sales for 2007 topped 3.9 million.
Toyota was the worlds best-selling carmaker in 2007, recording a whopping 9.36 million sales of its vehicles .
In second place was US manufacturer General Motors, which sold 8.9 million units, followed by Volkswagen with 6.2 million sales, and Ford with nearly 6 million units sold.
Carmakers Nissan, the PSA Group, Chrysler and Fiat made up the remaining four places in the top ten list.
