The Toyota Yaris has been crowned Green Car of the Year 2008 by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA).
The total 1,300 other models were rated by the ETA on their environmental credentials, with the Yaris claiming the green title ahead of the Honda Civic Hybrid and fellow brand model, the Toyota Prius .
Supercars dominated the opposite end of the list, with the Dodge SRT-10 sports car named as the least environmentally car overall, just ahead of the Lamborghini Murcielago and the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorani and 612 Scaglietti models.
ETA director Andrew Davis commented: "The discrepancy between the greenest and the least green cars in Britain today is striking."
"But the market is changing and a combination of consumer pressure alongside government leadership will result in an increasing choice of environmentally-sound cars ."
The ETA also named the Toyota Yaris Supermini of the Year.
