Audi To Launch Entry-Level Engine For TT

Fri, 02 May 2008

Audi has announced plans to introduce a new entry-level 1.8 TFSI engine to its TT coupe and roadster range.

The new turbocharged engine is more efficient than its 2.0-litre counterpart, averaging 42.1mpg in the Coupe, compared with 36.7mpg from the bigger engine, and also boasts lower CO2 emission - 158g/km for the Coupe and 161g/km for the Roadster .

As a result both models will be placed into the new band G for road tax when it comes into force in the UK next year.

In terms of performance, the 158bhp 1.8 engine will be able to power the Coupe to 62mph in 7.2 seconds - just 0.6 seconds slower than the 2.0-litre TFSI - and on to a top speed of 140mph.

Audi said the entry-level TT will be available to buyers in the UK from £23,300 - £1500 less than the cost of a 2.0-litre TFSI.

The bad news is that buyers will have to wait at least a year to get their hands on the latest addition to Audi’s TT range.
