Hondas new hybrid family car is expected to cost from £14,000 when it goes on sale in the UK next spring.
Although company officials have refused to confirm what the car will cost, Hondas pledge that it will make hybrid motoring more affordable than ever before has led to experts suggesting a £14,000 price tag to be a realistic target for the eco-friendly car .
A Honda spokesperson commented: "We want to put the new Global Hybrid at the centre of our range, and the key facet of the car is going to be affordability."
"Since 1999, Honda has sold 270,000 hybrids globally. With this new car alone, we are targeting annual sales of 200,000 models . That gives you an impression of just how far we think we can bring hybrids into people's range."
Honda revealed the new hybrid, yet to be named, will be a five-door model offering good fuel-efficiency, manoeuvrability, comfort and styling, although technical details of the car are yet to be revealed.
Current Honda hybrid models such as the Civic and Prius cost from £16,600 and £17,782 respectively.
