First details of the all-electric Mini E have been revealed by the British car maker.
According to Mini, the green car is powered by a 204bhp electric motor and has 162lb ft of pulling power, giving it a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 95mph.
The Mini E uses lithium ion batteries and gains extra charge by storing power generated under braking.
The cars fuel filler cap is replaced by an electric socket, which is used to charge the Mini E .
A full charge, which gives the car 150-mile range, takes around eight hours from a standard electricity supply, although owners can lower the charge time to 2.5 hours by installing a quick-charge unit in their home .
Testing on the eco-friendly model is due to begin early next year in New York, Los Angeles and New Jersey .
500 Mini E cars are set to be put on trial following its official unveiling at next months Los Angeles Motor Show .
