Motorists are being forced to change their car buying habits as the current economic climate continues to take its toll, new data has revealed.
According to eBayMotors.com, car buyers across Britain are becoming more savvy, increasingly researching resale values online before purchasing second-hand vehicles .
The auction site reported a "massive growth" in sales of hybrid cars, driven by rising fuel costs, and said of engine conversion kits had increased almost 300 per cent over the summer.
Other surprise preferences by motorists included LPG vehicles, which were among the top ten most searched for items on the eBay site in July 2008.
Alternative methods of transport are also proving popular, with sales of bikes rising 210 per cent in recent weeks, according to eBayMotors.com.
The popular website recently announced vehicle sales had passed the 3 million mark, with overall sales for 2008 up 12 per cent up on last year.
