Thu, 30 Apr 2009

BMW has taken the covers off its updated flagship 7 Series model, the 760Li .

The revamped luxury saloon is powered by BMW's first 6.0 litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which produces a whopping 544bhp.

The unit is mated to the German brand's first eight-speed automatic gearbox, which BMW says is no bigger or heavier than its six-speed automatic transmission .

According to official performance figures, 0-62mph is achieved in just 4.6 seconds - a second quicker than the previous 760Li - while top speed is limited to 155mph.

The new model is also over 5 per cent more efficient than the previous version, with CO2 emissions of 303g/kmand official average fuel consumption at 21.7mpg.

Exterior changes over other 7 Series models include a 5.5-inch stretch in the wheelbase, an extra-wide front grille frame, twin rectangular exhaust tailpipes, a chrome rain channel trim on the roof and V12 badges on the side.

Interior standard features of the 760Li include heated front and back seats, a multimedia sat nav system, automatic soft-close doors and an electrically powered sunblind for the rear windows.

The latest iteration of the new 7 series also comes equipped with Dynamic Damping Control, Dynamic Drive (roll stability) and self-levelling air suspension as standard.

The BMW 760Li is scheduled to go on sale in September, although pricing for the new model is yet to be confirmed.
