Thu, 13 Aug 2009

Porsche has unveiled its all-new 911 Turbo, which comes equipped with the first entirely new engine in the model's 35-year history.

The new twin-turbo 3.8-litre engine has direct fuel injection and produces a whopping 493bhp, 20bhp more than the current 911 Turbo .

As a result, the car rockets from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds - half a second quicker than the present model – and onto a maximum speed of 194mph.

Despite the increase in power, the new engine is also more fuel efficient with average economy ranging between 24.1 and 24.8mpg, while CO2 emissions are almost 18 per cent lower than the current model.

The latest in a long line of Porsche 911’s comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, although buyers will have the option of a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission . An F1-style paddle-shift system will also be available for the first time.

According to Porsche, changes to the four wheel drive and stability systems have made the new 911 Turbo more agile and precise.

Handling can be further improved thanks to the car’s optional Torque Vectoring system, which controls the balance of power between the rear wheels for maximum poise.

To guard against theft, the car is fitted with a tracking security system. Other standard equipment includes Bluetooth and MP3 connectivity.

The new 911 Turbo will go on sale in UK dealerships from November 21, with prices starting at £101,823 for the Coupe model and £109,048 for the Cabriolet .
