Volkswagen has launched a new entry-level version of the popular Scirocco hatchback .
The new model will be available to order from January 4 with prices starting from £18,860 - £800 cheaper than the current entry-level model.
The 1.4-litre petrol engine produces less bhp than the existing 1.4 TSI Scirocco (121bhp compared to 158bhp) and a slower 0-62mph time of 9.7 seconds, which is almost two seconds behind the current 1.4 motor.
However, the new model boasts CO2 emissions of 146g/km, making it the cleanest petrol-engined model in the Scirocco range.
It is also more fuel efficient than the current entry-level model, returning 44.1mpg compared to the 158bhp Sciroccos 42.8mpg using the same six-speed manual gearbox .
Buyers receive a six-CD autochanger, air-conditioning and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, while Adaptive Chassis Control, which tailors the car's suspension to suit different road conditions, is a £765 optional extra.
Volkswagen has also announced a new optional styling pack for its GT models will be available in the New Year.
The £950 Lugano Black package includes 19-inch alloys finished in gloss black as well as extra Piano Black inserts in the cabin.
