Fiat has added to its hugely popular 500 line-up with the launch of the eco-friendly Fiat 500 Start&Stop.
Based on the Fiat 500 1.2 Lounge model, the latest version of the supermini reduces fuel consumption by cutting the engine when the car is at a standstill.
Fiats engine stop-start technology reduces the cars CO2 emissions from 119g/km to just 113g/km, while average fuel consumption rises from 55.4mpg to 58.9mpg.
The carmaker said the extra mileage to the gallon is based purely on better economy around town, where efficiency is improved by up to 12 per cent.
The greener 500 is fitted with Fiat's hands-free phone system as standard, which also includes the company's eco:Drive system that allows drivers to monitor their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions .
Prices for the Fiat 500 Start&Stop start from £9500.
