Britains car buyers are being urged to take advantage of some of the best deals on new models.
According to a report by Whatcar.co.uk car manufacturers are offering massive discounts on new registrations in a bid to improve flagging sales figures.
New car sales took a major battering in 2008 as the motor industry suffered from the effects of the economic downturn .
According to the website, 272,212 less cars were sold last year representing an 11.3 per cent drop on sales the previous year.
However, the online car portal said the figure "masks" some of the current turmoil affecting the industry, as sales only began to fall significantly towards the end of the year.
This was highlighted by final registration figures for December which revealed a 21.2 per cent fall in sales compared with the same month in 2007.
