Audi has been voted car security manufacturer of the year for the fourth year running at the 2009 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards.
The German carmaker picked up the 2009 Manufacturer Award for having nine model ranges that each complied with the awards selection criteria; the A3, A4, A5, R8, TT, Q5, Q7, A6 and A8.
Audi also picked up four individual security gongs for compact executive car - the Audi A4, open-top car - the Audi A5 Cabriolet, performance car - the Audi S8 and compact 4x4 - the Audi Q5 .
Citroen was also well represented with four models - the Citroen C4 Exclusive, Citroen C5 Exclusive, Citroen C4 Picasso Exclusive and the Citroen C6 - each voted the most secure car in their respective groups.
The Innovation Award was won by the Volkswagen Group, for its 'Vehicle Secure Indicator' (VSI), which is a standard feature in the Audi Q7, A6 &A8 and the VW Touareg and Phaeton models
The technology allows owners to check whether their car has been locked and alarmed by simply pressing a button on the key fob, even when they are not with the car.
Other winners included the Seat Ibiza SE and Sport which won the City car / supermini award, the Ford S-Max (Large MPV) and the Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (Large 4x4).
Alan Campbell, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Crime Reduction, congratulated the winners of the 2009 BIVSA awards.
"I want to thank the whole industry for the efforts they have taken to make the cars and vans on British roads more secure and much harder for criminals to steal," he said.
'Working together we have seen vehicle crime in the UK fall by 66 per cent since 1995. This means many fewer victims of crime. That's a significant achievement and one that we can all be proud of."
