A new 'green' labelling system has launched for used cars on sale at more than 2000 UK dealerships .
The colour-coded system makes it easy for car buyers to tell how economical the vehicle is, with green labels used for cars with good green credentials and red labels used for motors with high fuel consumption or CO2 emissions .
The labelling system is similar to the one that is currently used for new cars, with each label displaying the name and make of the car, details of its CO2 emissions (in grams per kilometre), the official mpg figure and the estimated fuel cost based.
Over 2000 dealers across the UK have signed up the scheme so far, including franchised dealers, independent garages and car supermarkets .
Most of the participating dealers have opted to label cars registered before 2001, when the modern scheme of CO2 banding was first introduced, as well as newer models.
Commenting on the move, Transport Minister Sadiq Khan, said: "I hope as many dealers as possible will participate and I encourage used car buyers to look for the label when they consider what to buy."
