Honda has announced that its high performance Honda Civic Type R will be discontinued in parts of Europe later this year due to stringent new emission regulations.
The 2.0 litre VTEC hot hatch does not meet Euro V emission rules, set to be introduced at the beginning of 2011, next month, which has forced the Japanese carmaker to bring an end to production of the Type R for a number of European markets.
However, Honda confirmed that the Type R will continue to be produced in the UK at the companys Swindon plant for countries that don't have the Euro V regulations, such as Australia and South Africa.
One piece of good news is that list prices of the Type R have fallen, with the Type R GT and Type R LSD now available from £19,495 and £19,995 respectively, representing a saving of £2230 on both models.
Buyers can also get £1995 off the price of a special edition Civic Type R Mugen 200, which is now on sale at £22,995 as part of the Type Rs run-out deals.
The next generation of Honda Civics are due to be launched next year, although there are no details as yet on the next Civic Type R .
