Mitsubishi Cuts i-Miev Price By GBP10k

Fri, 27 Aug 2010

Mitsubishi has slashed the price of its i-Miev electric car by almost £10,000, despite the eco-friendly car not going on sale until the start of 2011.

The car had previously been priced at £38,699, but the cost has now been slashed to £28,990, which falls to an even lower price of £23,990 after the Government's £5000 electric car grant has been taken into account.

A retail price of £23,990 puts the i-Miev at the same level as the Nissan Leaf, which will arrive in the UK in February.

Buyers will also receive a five-year, 62,500-mile warranty for the main battery and EV components, and will have the option of adding an additional three-year servicing package for an extra £300.

Mitsubishi has given the i-Miev a 49kW electric motor that can power the car to a top speed of 81mph. The engine has a range of 90 miles and takes nine hours to charge, although a rapid charge system can recharge 80 per cent of the batteries' power in just 30 minutes.

In terms of specifications, the electric car comes equipped with central door locking with keyless entry, electric windows, front, side and curtain airbags, air conditioning, heated driver’s seat and wing mirrors, CD player, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a battery remaining indicator and alloy wheels .
