Jaguar To Launch Special Edition XKR

Fri, 25 Jun 2010

Jaguar has announced it will release a special-edition XKR model next week to commemorate the carmaker’s 75th anniversary.

The Jaguar XKR 75, which will be launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, comes with improved performance, tweaked suspension settings to cope with the extra power and an aerodynamic bodykit over the standard XKR .

Jaguar has increased the car’s power to 523bhp - up 20bhp from the standard model – giving it a new 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds (4.6 seconds for the standard XKR) and a top speed of 174mph (155mph for the current XKR).

Other extras include an updated exhaust system, 20-inch alloy wheels and red brake calipers .

Explaing the concept behind the car, Mike Cross, chief engineer of vehicle integrity at Jaguar, said: "We conceived the XKR 75 as a sports car with a duality of character that makes it perfectly suited to driving across Europe to the Nurburgring race track, completing some very fast laps, and then driving home again."

The XKR 75 will go on sale in the UK from £85,500, which is £10,000 more than the standard XKR . Customers will be able to order the special-edition model from July, with first deliveries expected in October.

To ensure its exclusivity, Jaguar said only 75 models will be made.
