Kia Recalls Over 7,000 Ceed and Picanto Models

Thu, 17 Jun 2010

Kia Motors has announced it is recalling some 6,585 Picanto superminis and 486 Cee'd models due to safety concerns.

The carmaker said some Picanto owners in the UK have reported instances where the fuel-filler neck seal has been damaged due to high levels of de-icing fluids, causing a fuel leak. The Picanto recall affects all cars built between November 2009 and February 2010.

Kia said it has also discovered that three-door, five-door and SW versions of the popular Cee’d hatchback that are fitted with stability control may have a faulty brake master cylinder. The problem concerns all Cee’d models built between April 1, 2008 and March 30, 2009.

The company said it is currently contacting all affected owners about the potential faults and will carry out all repairs free of charge.

Hamish McCowan, director of Kia after-sales and logistics, said: "Safety is always our top priority and our on-going product assessment and research has revealed these two potential problems."

"We have immediately put in place a process to contact owners and the work will be conducted by Kia dealers at a convenient time for customers."

"I would apologise to any owner whose vehicle may be affected and at the same time I would like to assure them that we believe we are acting before anyone in the UK has experienced any issue," the executive added.
