S-type Jag Britains Most Raided Car

Thu, 27 May 2010

The Jaguar S-Type saloon is the most broken into car in the UK, according to new research by motor insurance provider elephant.co.uk.

Analysis of the insurer’s claims records shows that one in 90 luxury Jaguars are raided by thieves - eight times the national average break-in rate.

The S-Type is also one of the top five models most frequently stolen in the past year. Elephant.co.uk examined over 10,000 car theft claims and found that one in 77 of the British-built cars were stolen in the 12 months to the end of April – 11 times the UK average.

They said motorists must remember to remove all items from view when parking as most break-ins were due to valuables being left on show.

Brian Martin, managing director of Elephant.co.uk, said: "It seems car thieves just want an easy option when it comes to choosing which vehicle to target."

"If we make things even a little more difficult for them the chances are they will move on to the next car ."

The figures show that overall one in 714 cars in the UK is raided by thieves and one in 833 is stolen.

The Nissan Sunny is the nation’s most frequently stolen model with one in 41 nicked by thieves, followed by the Rover Metro and the Vauxhall Nova.
