Car rental company Hertz has teamed up with Mitsubishi to offer electric cars for hire in the UK.
Under the new partnership, Hertz has added Mitsubishis eco-friendly i-Miev to its fleet and its car sharing club Connect.
Two of the energy-saving city cars are now available for Hertz members in London and there are plans to make more available throughout the UK.
The cars can be charged at 16 Hertz charging stations across the capital, including Heathrow and London City Airport, while hundreds of public charging points will be rolled out in 2013 as part of the Mayor of Londons plans to turn the city into the electric vehicle capital of Europe.
Hertz said the initiative with Mitsubishi "further demonstrates the rental providers commitment to providing customers with a variety of zero-emission mobility solutions".
Mitusibishi UK managing director Lance Bradley commented: "We are delighted to partner with Hertz and to be able to offer the i-MiEV to their customers."
"The i-MiEV is a very important vehicle for us, making a statement to the global car industry - being the first mass-produced, zero emission full electric vehicle ever. It has a vastly reduced effect on our environment, yet demands absolutely no compromise in terms of safety, comfort, convenience or fun."
"It is a vehicle for the future, available right now - built for the modern city commuter, in a stylish, super-modern, high-tech and exciting package."
