Toyota Hit By More Quality Control Problems

Thu, 27 Jan 2011

Toyota has announced it recalling nearly 19,000 cars in the UK due to potential problems with fuel systems.

The troubled Japanese car manufacturer said hundreds of Toyota Avensis and Lexus IS 250 models could be at risk of fuel leaks if they are not modified by mechanics.

The problems affect 15,500 Toyota Avensis 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engine models, produced between July 2000 and September 2008, and 3,100 UK-registered Lexus IS 250 petrol engine vehicles, produced between August 2007 and February 2009.

Owners of these vehicles will be sent letters from Toyota officials to arrange free repairs, which are expected to take up to four-and-a-half hours to complete.

Jon Williams, Managing Director of Toyota GB, said: "We are committed to putting the customer first and have a total focus on the quality of all our products."

"We will liaise with our customers to carry out the repair procedures as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption."

The latest problem, which affects nearly 1.7 million cars worldwide, has further dented the reputation of the world’s biggest carmaker, which has already been hit by a series of quality control problems and mass recalls over the last year.
