Orders Mounting For Hondas Special Edition Civic

Thu, 31 Mar 2011

Honda has revealed that sales of its special-edition Civic Ti are flying, despite the car yet to be officially released.

The Japanese carmaker plans to make 500 special-edition models – 300 with the 1.8-litre engine and 200 with the 1.4 variant. It claims more than 100 orders for the car have already been taken, with first deliveries expected on April 20.

The Civic Ti is based on SE versions of the popular small family car, but also draws on Honda's Team Dynamics British Touring Car Championship racing car with its unique 17-inch 'Pro Race' wheels and Honda's GP bodykit.

It also comes with £3700 worth of extra equipment, including a Pioneer Navigation System with a 3D touchscreen display, Bluetooth, MP3 player connectivity and an eco-driving function that enables GPS systems to tell how efficiently the car is being driven.

Prices for the special-edition Civic Ti start from £15,995 for the 1.4-litre variant and £16,995 for the 1.8, making it £355 cheaper than the standard model.

Meanwhile, Honda has confirmed that its UK plant has not yet been affected by any shortage of parts caused by the recent natural disasters in Japan as only 8 per cent of components used to build its cars in the UK are sourced there.

But it warned that UK operations could experience supply issues during May if the wide-scale disruption in Japan continues.
