Thu, 03 Mar 2011

The Range Rover Evoque has been awarded the title of Car Design of the Year 2010 by readers of Car Design News.

The 4x4, which was officially unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, saw off stiff competition from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the Audi A7 to claim the prestigious award for the production vehicle category, receiving 35 per cent of the vote.

Now in its final production form, the Evoque follows faithfully the lines of the Land Rover LRX concept created under the direction of Julian Thomson.

"I am delighted to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the Land Rover Design team," said Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer. "This is a particularly special accolade as it is represents recognition from peers in the industry."

Eric Gallina, editor of Car Design News, said the Evoque "represents the best translation from concept car to production vehicle we have seen in recent times", adding that the vehicle’s "exceptional stance, dynamic proportions and crisp graphics" made it a clear favourite from the start.

Second place in the production vehicle category went to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, with the Audi A7 and the Kia Sportage and Optima models completing the top five places.

The award for the top concept car design went to the Pininfarina Duettottanta.
