Wed, 30 Nov 2011

Honda has teamed up with Mugen Euro to produces a special edition of its hybrid CR-Z model which boasts more performance than the Civic Type R .

The new 2012 CR-Z iCF Mugen has a top speed of over 130mph and can sprint from 0 to 62mph in 6.1 seconds - over 3 seconds faster than the standard sports coupe – thanks to the addition of a supercharger to the 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain, taking power up to 197bhp.

The new CR-Z strengthens Honda’s partnership with Mugen Euro, which brought us the Civic Type R Mugen in 2009.

Mugen claimed that up to £60,000 of parts and labour went into the limited-edition car to showcase the company’s expertise. Each model cost around £40,000, which is nearly double the expected dealer price of the CR-Z Mugen (£23,000).

Martin Moll, Head of Honda (UK) marketing said: "Mugen Euro magic has created a super responsive yet eco-conscious model building on our sporting credentials and giving us the ability to compete in the hot hatch marketplace as we move into 2012."

Production development of the CR-Z iCF Mugen continues at Mugen Euro, with first models expected to arrive at the eight Honda UK Mugen dealers next February.

There’s no word on whether the car will be a limited edition.
