Mini Roadster Details Revealed

Tue, 01 Nov 2011

Prices for the new Mini Roadster – the soft-top version of the recently launched Mini Coupe - have been announced.

Four variants of the Roadster will be available to buy next spring, with prices starting from £18,015 for the entry-level Mini Cooper Roadster; £20,900 for the Mini Cooper S Roadster, £21,630 for the Mini Cooper SD Roadster (diesel); and £24,850 for the special edition Mini John Cooper Works model.

Unlike the Mini Convertible, the Roadster is the first open-top two-seater Mini. Most of the car’s exterior body panels are shared with the Mini Coupe, including a lower, more steeply angled front windscreen than the four-seater Mini hatchback, but the Roadster’s semi-automatic canvas roof is brand new.

It lowers or raises in around 10 seconds and, when opened, it folds down behind the seats, ensuring drivers still have the full 240-litre boot space.

Of the four models, the most eco-friendly is the 143bhp SD Roadster with CO2 emissions of just 118g/km and fuel economy at 62.8mpg. It also has a top speed of 132mph.

The most powerful is 211bhp John Cooper Works Roadster which has top speed of 147mph. CO2 emissions are at 169g/km and fuel economy is 38.7mpg.

Standard equipment includes electronic power steering, traction control, Macpherson struts suspension, hill start assist, ABS braking, front and head-thorax airbags, and polished stainless steel roll-over bars.

Buyers will also get electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, rear park sensors, air-con and a MP3-compatible CD player, digital radio and AUX connections.
